Armed Forces Law

As an armed services member, you put everything on the line, offering your highest performance in defense of your country, our freedom, and those who cannot defend themselves. When you stand accused of violating the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), you deserve to be defended in the same way.

At Hutchens Law Firm, we’re proud to put everything on the line as well to defend and serve military members with the same high-performance standards of dedication, discipline, and skilled training. Some of our attorneys and staff members are veterans or guard members themselves. We draw upon our extensive arsenal of legal resources, expertise, and experience to defend your honor, your career, and even your own freedom depending on the charges being faced.

The UCMJ applies to all active-duty, reserve and Guard members. Certain provisions even apply to retired military personnel receiving pay and benefits. Violation of any of the articles of the UCMJ can bring punishments ranging from reduction of pay, privileges, and rank, to confinement, imprisonment, and dishonorable discharge with a criminal record.

While the UCMJ shares many similarities to civilian law, such as right to counsel and Constitutional protections, it does have its own more stringent codes of conduct forbidding things such as fraternization, adultery, insubordination, AWOL and desertion that have their own particular legal tests. And like the rules and regulations of UCMJ, the court-martial trial process shares similarities to civilian trial, but also has its own unique and particular procedures.

But one important right you retain – even in the military setting – is the right to retain a civilian attorney to represent and defend your interests.

That is exactly what we do at Hutchens Law firm. As veterans of the military justice system, our knowledge of the UCMJ and court-martial procedures has been honed by experience to a razor’s edge. We can cut through the unique complexities to examine the charges against you, plan a defensive action, and fight for you the whole way through.

No matter which branch of the military you are in, when you’re facing a fight against UCMJ charges you won’t face the battle alone with Hutchens Law Firm by your side.

While we can come to your aid for any UCMJ violations, you can view our sub-practice pages to see how we can help with some of the more unique and complex issues that can arise.
